Virginia Farm Recovery Block Grant Program

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS), in collaboration with the Virginia Department of Forestry and the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service, secured a grant from the USDA to establish the Virginia Farm Recovery Block Grant Program. This program is designed to provide direct financial assistance to eligible producers — including farmers and ranchers — who have suffered economic losses from the extensive damage caused by Hurricane Helene in September 2024.

Program Overview

The Virginia Farm Recovery Block Grant Program is intended to provide direct aid to eligible producers in the 27 affected localities, comprised of 21 counties and 6 independent cities. For a complete list of affected areas, qualifying losses, application instructions, and additional details, please see the Key Details section below.

Producers with verifiable agriculture losses are invited to apply online via the VDACS WebGrant Application. Award recipients can expect to receive grant funds beginning in October 2025.

2025 Application Timeline

VDACS is currently working with USDA on a workplan to administer the funds. Once this workplan is approved, VDACS will work with Virginia Cooperative Extension and Virginia Department of Forestry will begin a promotional campaign, to announce the registration and application periods.
